Tiwa Savage, born Tiwatope Omolara Savage on February 5, 1980, in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria, is a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She is celebrated for her contributions to the Nigerian music industry and her ability to blend various genres, including Afrobeats, R&B, Afropop, pop, and hip-hop.
Tiwa Savage’s Early Life and Education
At the age of 11, Tiwa relocated to London, United Kingdom, where she completed her secondary education. During her time in London, she developed a passion for music and began performing in church choirs. She later attended the University of Kent, earning a degree in Business Administration, and subsequently studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in 2007.
Tiwa Savage Music Career
Tiwa’s professional music career began as a backup vocalist for international artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige. She gained further recognition by participating in the UK edition of The X Factor, reaching the final 24 contestants. In 2009, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, becoming the first African female musician to do so.
In 2012, Tiwa returned to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records, marking the beginning of her prominence in the Nigerian music scene. She released her debut single, “Without My Heart,” in 2011, and has since produced numerous hits, including “Kele Kele Love,” “Love Me (x3),” and “All Over.” Her debut studio album, “Once Upon a Time,” was released in 2013, followed by “R.E.D” in 2015, and “Celia” in 2020.

Tiwa Savage married her manager, Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun, on November 23, 2013. The couple has a son, Jamil Balogun, born in July 2015. Tiwa is also known for her philanthropic efforts and has been recognized for her influence in fashion and music.
