Douglas Jack Agu, professionally known as Runtown, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer born on August 19, 1989, in Enugu State, Nigeria. Following his father’s passing, he relocated to Abuja with his mother and later returned to Enugu. He completed his primary education in Lagos and Abuja. Initially aspiring to be a basketball player, Runtown eventually pursued a career in music.
Runtown’s musical journey began in 2007 when he moved to Lagos with Phyno, collaborating on various projects. He gained prominence with his 2014 hit single “Gallardo,” featuring Davido, which earned the Best Collaboration of the Year award at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
In 2015, Runtown released his debut studio album, Ghetto University, which featured collaborations with artists like Wizkid and Uhuru. The album’s success further established him in the Nigerian music scene. He continued to release popular tracks, including “Mad Over You” in 2016 and “Energy” in 2017.
Throughout his career, Runtown has been recognized for his contributions to African music, earning nominations and awards both locally and internationally. His unique blend of Afrobeat, R&B, and reggae influences has garnered him a diverse fan base.
Beyond music, Runtown has shown interest in fashion, studying Management of Fashion Industry at the Fashion School of Technology in New York.
As of 2025, Runtown continues to be an influential figure in the Nigerian music industry, known for his innovative sound and impactful collaborations.
